Today on the Rescheck Blog we want to talk to you about creating a Rescheck report that your building department and building inspector will love.  You are in luck, because we are going to detail the steps that the #1 resource for Rescheck reports uses to create every Rescheck.  In sharing this information with you we hope that we can help you create better Rescheck reports and in turn create amazing Rescheck Energy Audits that will make your building inspector say, wow!

The first thing that you need to complete any Rescheck is a full size set of plans.  Do not skimp on this portion of the project as it will affect your entire process.  Thinking you can use a tiny laptop screen is a big mistake and will lead to headaches through each of the next steps.  We print out a full size set of plans on every project so we can guarantee your project is done correctly.  Then we keep the plans on file, because our service includes free lifetime modifications.  If you are having trouble printing a large set of prints contact any commercial printer or architectural supply.  You can also give us a call on the Rescheck Help line at 865-235-6277 and we can probably assist you.

The second item that you need is an architectural scale.  This is a 3 sided triangle shape ruler that has a multitude of different dimensions for measuring the components on your home.  This can be purchased for less than $10 so you will need to locate one of these before you get started creating your Do It Yourself Rescheck report.

Once you have these items together you want to find a well lit desk and have a pen & paper handy.  Go ahead and start with the roof of your structure.  Measure out the roof sq ft and find the R-value.  Enter these into the Rescheck Web software.  Next work your way down to the walls of the home.  Locate the wall sq ft and R-Value then enter them into the Rescheck software of your choice.  Your next step is to measure out the sq ft of the windows and find the U Value and SHGC of this component.  Enter this information into your Rescheck Energy audit report program and you are ready to move on to the doors.  Spell out each door one by one and designate whether it is a solid or glass unit alongside the respective square footage.  Then enter the information along with the U Value and SHGC of each door unit.

Your final step in preparing the Rescheck report that will impress your local building inspector is to figure out what type of foundation that you have.  Is it a crawl space, slab, basement, or a combo of the 3.  Rescheck software treats each foundation differently so determine what type of foundation you have, measure the square footage, find the R-Value, then enter it into the Rescheck software.

Now you want to make sure you have the jobsite address, homeowner’s name, and architects name and enter these onto the coverpage of your Rescheck report along with your IECC 2009, IECC 2012, IECC 2015, or IECC 2018 energy code.  Once you have this information entered into your Rescheck form you are ready to click check compliance button.  If you get a pass all you need to do is sign and date the report and you are ready for permitting.  If you get a fail you may need to increase the efficiency of certain components.
