Today on the Reschexpert blog we want to help all of those DIY Rescheck creators set up their own home energy audit space to create their own free Rescheck Energy Reports.  We are going to discuss the basic needs every home energy audit office has and how each item can make your Do It Yourself Free Rescheck go much smoother.

The first item you are going to need whether you are creating a DIY Rescheck, Comcheck, Manual J Heat Loss, Manual S Equipment Sizing, or Manual D Duct Layout is a full size set of plans.  The easiest way to get these is to have them printed off at a home office supply store and use those for calculations.  However, this will eventually drive up your overhead so you will probably want look at installing your own plotter the more home energy audits you do.  I cannot stress how much having your own large size set of prints on every project will help you and your home energy audits.

The next item you need is an architect’s scale.  This tool will help you derive measurements that are not clearly shown on a set of plans.  Everything from ceiling, walls, windows, doors, and the foundation can all be measured using this scale.  A scale can be found relatively inexpensively online or perhaps at a local blueprint supply store.  These will come in handy on many projects and are a low cost favorite of all at home energy auditors.

The next item you are going to need is a computer.  Because Reschecks rely on software and cloud based calculators and generators you are going to need a machine to process them on.  We suggest you use Rescheck Web because it is the easiest most user friendly interface, and it is the only Rescheck Software that has been updated to include IECC 2018 Reschecks.  So some basic necessities like plenty of Ram and a solid internet connect will go a long way making sure you have the computing power necessary to create your Rescheck, Comcheck, Manual J, Manual S, or Manual D.

The final item you are going to need to line up is time.  Time is the most important thing you will need to create each home energy audit.  We anticipate 4-6 hours for each report and you should too.  If you are just getting started you should budget more like 10-12 hours.  Giving yourself enough time will ensure your calculations are done promptly and correctly each time.

Thanks for reading the Reschexpert blog.  If you need a Rescheck, Manual J, Manual S, Manual D, or comcheck simply email plans to service@rescheck.info and we will get you taken care of.
