What is a Rescheck

A common question heard on the Reschexpert blog will be discussed in today’s issue. What is a Rescheck? We hear this all the time so we thought it was time to bring the subject to light.

What is a Rescheck surfaces often and the most basic answer is that a Rescheck is the end product of a Department of Energy Software that measures your insulation, glazing efficiency, and building components and compares them to your local climate zone, giving you a pass or fail score.

A Rescheck is created using one of two softwares both created by the Department of Energy. The web based version is called Rescheck Web and any projects that you create will be stored on the Cloud somewhere in a Department of Energy server so that you may recall the project anywhere that you have an internet connection. The second software is called Rescheck Desktop and it too can create a Rescheck for you. However, your project will be stored on your local hard drive of your computer when using Rescheck Desktop. The advantage being that you can create Rescheck reports using Rescheck Desktop even without a internet connection.

A Rescheck is typically presented to the building department in a PDF form, sometimes printed on paper. The Rescheck Software generates the PDF form without further need for conversion so the task of submitting a Rescheck to your building department can be somewhat effortless after the Rescheck is calculated, generated, signed, and dated.

What is a Rescheck? Well, a Rescheck is a form that generated by software that compares your home to your climate zone and tells you if there are areas that you might need to increase efficiency. On the other hand, it can also be a great budgeting tool. If you home passes the Rescheck by a large amount it might be at least worth considering what areas of insulation might be the most expensive and what other options are available, if only for piece of mind.  Also a Rescheck can give you a good idea of the square footages of insulation that will be installed in the ceilings, walls, and floors.
