Today on the Reschexpert blog we want to talk about keywords and jargon you might find in Rescheck reporting that you might not understand or comprehend. We have put together a list of the common words that are found during Rescheck that you might need a little extra help to find the meaning of. We hope you enjoy this version of the Reschexpert blog.
FROG Rescheck
This is a finished room over a garage. Sometimes called a bonus room as well.. Typically the garage below is unconditioned so you need to take special considerations to insulate the floor of your FROG or the ceiling of your garage to make the area pass Rescheck.
MIL Rescheck
This is lovingly called a Mother In Law Suite. Basically, on the plans it would look like a separate master bedroom along with a mini kitchen area and some dining and living space. This type of space would allow someone to live with you on a short or longer term basis with daily interactions that can be managed because each side of the home has all the essential rooms for daily life. An MIL would need the same insulation in the roof, ceiling, windows, doors, and foundation as the rest of home.
ADU Rescheck
This is an accessory dwelling unit. Where the FROG and MIL are typically attached to the main home. The ADU is a secondary home or apartment located on the same lot as the primary home. The ADU might be good for an overnight rental like a Vacasa, AIRBNB, VRBO, or Homeaway. It can also be good for guests to have their own space. When you insulate your ADU you need to take the same considerations as for the main home as it will be judged on your Rescheck just like any other structure for your climate zone and prevailing energy code.
ICF Rescheck
Insulated concrete forms take the abbreviation of ICF. The is a framework of foam insulation that is poured solid with concrete. These are hyper insulated methods of building basement and main floor walls. Also extremely strong. If your home is requiring a Rescheck and you are using an ICF then you typically have no problem passing because even the standard insulation options for an ICF are above what you can achieve with typical framing methods.
SIP Rescheck
A structural insulated panel is a SIP. This is a piece of rigid insulation that is laminated between two pieces of plywood, osb, or ther sheet materials. These panels can come pre cut with windows, doors, and wiring chases. SIPS are effective methods for passing Reschecks, because the insulation contained within them is continuous, which means it is not broken up or separated by stud framing.
IECC Rescheck
This is the International Energy Conservation Code. In terms of Rescheck this will deal with what energy code your Rescheck is judged upon. The options are:
IECC 2009 Rescheck
IECC 2012 Rescheck
IECC 2015 Rescheck
IECC 2018 Rescheck
IECC 2021 Rescheck
IECC 2024 Rescheck
IECC 2027 Rescheck
ACCA
This is the American Conditioning Contractors of America. They make softwares and calculation standards for:
Manual J Heat Loss
Manual S Equipment Sizing
Manual D Duct Sizing
WIC Rescheck
Walk in Closet. This is an area to store your clothes typically in a bedroom. It is large enough to walk in and hang or store your items. It is insulated on the Rescheck the same way as the rest of the home.
