Just this morning, while logging into Rescheck Web, I noticed a new and frustrating error message. It appeared in plain text at the top of the window and looked like this:
“The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator. Your support ID is: (This will be a random 19 digit number that changes each time you access Reschec Web)”
Before we dive in, a quick reminder: Rescheck.info and the Reschexpert blog do not own or maintain the Rescheck Web software or the Rescheck Help Desktop. We are Rescheck users, just like you, who provide tips and services to help the community navigate energy code compliance.
🔍 What Does This Error Actually Mean?
If you see a “URL Rejected” message followed by a long Support ID number, it typically means the server’s security firewall (often a system called F5) has blocked your request. This isn’t usually a problem with your specific project data, but rather a technical “handshake” issue between your computer and the Department of Energy’s servers.
Common causes include:
Browser Cookies: Stale or corrupted cookies can trigger a security rejection.
Maintenance: The site may be undergoing an update, causing temporary instability.
Browser Extensions: Certain ad-blockers or security plug-ins can interfere with the login process.
🛠️ How to Fix the “URL Rejected” Error
Since the Rescheck Help Desk may take time to respond to these technical tickets, here are three quick steps you can try to get back to work immediately:
Clear Your Browser Cache: This is the #1 fix. Clear your cookies and browser history for the “last hour” and try logging in again.
Try Incognito Mode: Open a “Private” or “Incognito” window in Chrome or Edge. This bypasses your saved cookies and often allows the site to load correctly.
Switch Browsers: If you are using Chrome, try Firefox or Safari. Sometimes the error is specific to how one browser is communicating with the server.
